NFTS Pineapple Calamari
How incredible is this Animation!
Admittedly it's not a western, but it has a horse character. Now I don't know if you've noticed but there is a lack of horsey animation in my extended practice. Do you know why, because I've discovered they are a bugger to animate. I'm so disappointed in myself that I wasn't able to do that 180 spin of the horse bucking, I just didn't have the perseverance, I don't know if you noticed but I have just really struggled with this project. Even though I chose it I have no motivation, and it makes it so much harder when you see work like this being produced. Admittedly it's a stop motion, but the production of the clay horse is super slick, and even when there's a few jerks in the animation frame rate and the movement isn't so subtle it's still works because it just adds to the charm. I think this is going to be like mine, because I'm not too bothered about the frame rate more focus on the clarity of the narrative.
The most heartwarming feature of this short, and which is why I think it was chosen as a staff pick is because it deals with a deeper topic, so other than it looking pretty it actually faces grief and the loss of a loved one head on. I think this makes it so outstanding because it's something everyone can relate to so it has a peak and a trough in the story, and I think that's what I was trying to do with mine having a trough at the start of the script with the dad dying and then a peak when Roy Foreman is arrested and then plato out into the unknown when he escapes from prison at the end.
