Laura Heit, Animation Sketchbooks
Here are a few insights into a relatively new book, put together by Laura Heit called Animation Sketchbooks, and is a collection of pages from different Animators sketchbooks. Here are some example pages I found off It's Nice That. I have yet to see the book in person, but my copy is on order, I just stumbled across it on the internet. I am so impressed by the quality of the work, I thought sketchbooks were mainly for doodles, how come these ones are such high quality! Laura Heit states in the introduction,
"A sketchbook affords the mark-maker a safe place to play, to experiment, and to be unusually free. It is here that drawing can become wholly uninhibited, unencumbered by critique or criticism.
“There are no mistakes here, just first gestures, unselfconscious sketches, odd bits glued on, lists, notes, scribbles, jottings and doodles. An exclusive unveiling of the beauty, sincerity, and mania of the animator’s intimate process.”
The book includes pages from the sketchbooks of over fifty animators including David Shrigley, Isabel Herguera and Jeff Sher.
